The significance of this ForNextCobot project is twofold. Firstly, the project represents the grouping and improvement of the scientific base by merging the potential of the School of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade (ETF) with the Mihajlo Pupin Institute (IMP) as one of the leading institutions in the field of Robotics at the University of Belgrade in the up-and-coming field of collaboration between humans and robots, and derived from the knowledge base in robotics, automation, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, etc. In addition, the project represents the revival of the so-called Belgrade School of Robotics, an informal group formed around an academician Miomir Vukobratović and prof. Rajko Tomović in 1960s and 1970s, which continues to exist and carries on with its rich tradition through the work of an academic Dejan Popović and prof. Veljko Potkonjak.
By uniting young researchers from the School of Electrical Engineering and the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, who have acquired professional specializations abroad and whose results have already gained them international recognition in the field of Robotics, through this project, and colleagues from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering through other joint scientific activities, it is considered that the University of Belgrade will still be one of the landmarks on the European robotics map.
